Madame Tussauds Dubai is the first branch of the wax museum in the GCC, and it is built around getting close rather than standing behind a rope. Around 60 figures are arranged across themed zones - music, fashion, film, sport, media, leaders and Bollywood - and you are meant to walk in among them, pose, touch and photograph. Sixteen of the figures are Middle Eastern personalities made specifically for this location, which is what separates it from the London or New York collections, and they sit alongside global names including Shah Rukh Khan, Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Chan, Kylie Jenner and Cristiano Ronaldo. Each figure takes a team of sculptors months to produce, and the detail holds up at very close range - individual hairs are punched in one at a time. Most visitors need about an hour, longer if the group is taking photographs seriously. The venue is entirely indoors and air-conditioned. Bring a phone or camera; photography throughout is not only allowed but the whole point of the visit.
