About this experience

This is the classic Dubai desert evening, and it is built around the drive out. An air-conditioned 4x4 collects you from your hotel and heads for the dunes, where the dune-bashing run - a genuinely thrilling stretch of driving across the ridgelines - delivers you to a traditional desert camp as the sun goes down. At the camp the evening opens up: camel rides, sandboarding on the slopes, henna painting, sheesha, and time to simply sit while the light changes. Dinner is a BBQ buffet with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, served alongside a run of live performances including belly dancing, a tanoura show and a fire show. Refreshments - tea, coffee, water and soft drinks - are included throughout. The whole evening runs about six hours from hotel pickup to drop-off.

Itinerary

    Hotel pickup and the drive to the dunes

    A 4x4 collects you from your Dubai hotel in the afternoon. The drive out to the Al Lahbab desert takes around 45 minutes, leaving the city behind for open red sand as the light starts to soften.

    Dune bashing, camel ride and sunset

    At the edge of the dunes the driver deflates the tyres and the dune-bashing run begins - a rolling 20-30 minute drive over the crests. There is a stop for photographs at the top of a high dune, a short camel ride and sandboarding, timed so the group is in the open desert for sunset.

    Bedouin camp: BBQ dinner and live shows

    The evening is spent at a desert camp with carpets and low seating around a central stage. Unlimited soft drinks, water and tea are served alongside a barbecue buffet with vegetarian options, and the entertainment runs through belly dance, tanoura and a fire show. Henna painting, shisha and Arabic dress for photographs are available. The drive back reaches Dubai hotels around 21:00-21:30.
