About this experience
Chillout Ice Lounge was the first sub-zero lounge in the Middle East, and the appeal is the contrast: you step out of Dubai's heat into a room held at around minus six degrees, where the walls, the tables, the seating and the sculptures are all carved from ice. Thermal coats, gloves and boots are provided at the door and included in the ticket, so you need bring nothing. Inside, the space is lit in shifting colour through the ice, which is what makes it photograph so well, and a menu of hot soups, sandwiches, hot drinks and desserts is served at the ice bar. It sits in Times Square Center on Sheikh Zayed Road. Visits are capped at around an hour, which is comfortable given the temperature, and it works well as a short, genuinely different stop rather than a half-day. Wear closed shoes and long trousers; children are welcome, with thermal wear provided in smaller sizes.

Collect your thermal coat, gloves and boots at reception, then step through the airlock into a room held well below freezing. The interior is built almost entirely from ice - carved seating, sculpted walls and glass and steel detailing lit in shifting colour. Warm drinks and light bites are served inside. Sessions are timed, and around an hour is comfortable before the cold stops being a novelty.
