About this experience

The Big Bus is the least complicated way to get the measure of Dubai. Open-top double-deckers run two loops out of Dubai Mall and your ticket is valid on both: the Red City Route takes about an hour and three-quarters, the Blue Beach Route about two hours and twenty minutes. Buses come round roughly every half hour, every day of the year.

The lower deck is air-conditioned and the upper deck is open to the sky. Single-use headsets carry recorded commentary in twelve languages, so you get the history of what you are passing rather than just the view of it. Hop off at any of the ten-plus stops, stay as long as you like, and pick up the next bus through.

Three tickets are available. Discover is one day on the buses. Essential adds a second day plus a dhow cruise and the Lost World Aquarium. Explore runs five days and adds entry to Dubai Frame on top.

Itinerary

    Start at the Dubai Mall stop

    The Big Bus stop at Dubai Mall (Zabeel parking) is where most people join, with the first bus at 10:00 and departures roughly every half hour after that. You can also board at any other stop on either route.

    The Red City Route, about 1 hour 45

    The city loop takes in Downtown, the creek and the old quarter - the Dubai Frame, Al Fahidi and its wind towers, the souqs of Deira and the abra crossings. Hop off at any stop, stay as long as you like, and pick up the next bus through.

    The Blue Beach Route, about 2 hours 20

    The coastal loop runs out along the beaches past the Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Mosque to Dubai Marina. Your ticket covers both routes, so you can switch between them as often as you like.
