About this experience
Al Noor Island sits in Khalid Lagoon in the middle of Sharjah, and it is one of the most deliberately calm places in the UAE. The island is small enough to walk in an afternoon and designed as a single composition: landscaped gardens threaded with sculptural pathways, contemporary art installations placed among the planting, and the Butterfly House, where hundreds of butterflies move freely through a climate-controlled dome. The Literature Pavilion and the illuminated OVO sculpture anchor the ends. It is at its best in the late afternoon and after dark, when the lighting design comes into its own and the island reads as a single artwork. At AED 35 it is among the best-value attractions in the Emirates, and three hours is comfortable - long enough to walk the whole thing twice, which most people end up doing.

Al Noor Island, Sharjah
Cross the footbridge from the Sharjah corniche onto the island. Walk the landscaped gardens and sculptural pathways, step into the Butterfly House where hundreds of butterflies fly free inside a climate-controlled dome, and take in the Literature Pavilion and the illuminated OVO sculpture. Late afternoon and evening are best, once the lighting design comes on. Allow around three hours.
